Q: How do I find out if my child has ADHD?

Q: Can ADHD New Zealand diagnose me or my whānau member? Or can you recommend a healthcare professional who will?

A: ADHD New Zealand is volunteer organisation with a focus on sharing information, building community and making sure the ADHD community’s voice is heard. We don't provide clinical services or referrals however, you can use our healthcare directory to look for a practitioner:

Q: Is there any government support available to assist me or my whānau member in living with ADHD?

A: Depending on your situation, you may be eligible for various types of government support. Visit our family and whānau page for details. As a volunteer organisation with no government funding we do not provide financial support ourselves.

Q: What rights do I have in the workplace as a person with ADHD?

A: You have protections under the Human Rights Act 1993 and the Employment Relations Act 2000. Our ADHD at mahi (work) page hosts a collection of resources that address the issues neurodivergent people face in the workplace every day:

Q: I am an educator. How can I support my students with ADHD?

ADHD medication 

Q: What do I need to know about ADHD medication?

A: Our ADHD and medication page has information on stimulant and non-stimulant medications and how special authority numbers work. We don't provide medical advice or support with prescriptions. Please speak directly with your GP, pharmacist or specialist about any specific medication-related concerns.

Q1: I am travelling out of New Zealand what do I need to know about bringing my ADHD medication with me?

Q3: I have ADHD and I am moving to New Zealand from overseas.  How do I continue to be prescribed medication for ADHD?
