Introduction

Our goal is to help lecturers and other staff at tertiary institutes to easily understand what ADHD is and provide strategies, tips and tools to optimise the achievement of the learners with ADHD in your classes.

To help us understand the challenges you have and what support you'd ideally have, please have a think about, and come prepared to share:

whether you've been able to identify learners with ADHD in your classes, how you've done this and whether you've identified any characteristics or habits that could help others identify learners with ADHD in their classes
various strategies, support mechanisms, tools and tips that you use to support these learners, and
other learnings you think would help others (such as 'what not to do').

Who will be there?

There are likely to be two people from the team at ADHD NZ:

one will be the facilitator/moderator who will be asking questions to ensure we cover the important topics, and
the other will be taking notes.

* We may also record the audio of this session so that we don’t miss anything important and so that we can go back and revisit the information if we need to.

Housekeeping

As far as the focus groups are concerned, there are a few “ground rules”:

please respect each other’s opinions. There’s no right or wrong answer to the questions we will ask. We want to hear what each of you think and it’s okay to have different opinions
we’d like to hear everyone speak so we might ask people who have not spoken up to comment, and
we might move you along in conversation. Since we have limited time, we’ll ask that questions or comments off the topic be answered after the focus group session.
