"Masterton"

The beautiful Wairarapa countryside Masterton (pop. 20,000) lies in the Wairarapa valley, a region situated about 60km north east of Wellington City. The town was first settled in 1854, and has had a rich history in the farming sector. About 20km north of the main centre of Masterton is the Mount Bruce National Wildlife Centre, where rare and endangered birds and other species are studied and bred - a must-see if you travel to Masterton.
